Certified Forklift Operator

I am now a certified forklift operator. Not only that, I am the interim WWC forklift trainer. Why? Well the Warehouse Manager has resigned and we won't be able to hire a replacement until January 1st. So in dividing up her duties they decided that I would take over the forklift training duties. At that point I suggested it might be helpful if I was trained to operate the forklift. I had my training today.

The only real tricky thing about driving a forklift is the turning. It is the rear wheels that turn and it really changes things.

New Hosting Server

Congratulations, you have reached the new hosting server.

I've been having a serious problem with my old hosting provider, Network Solutions.  About a week ago I started to get server errors intermittently.  You could see a page fine sometimes and a few minutes later the same page would have a server error.  After a while the errors became more frequent.

I figured I'd messed something up until I got the exact same error using Network Solutions' file manager.  I reported the issue to NS, but they've yet come up with a fix.

Eventually I gave up and decided to move to a new service.  There is another advantage to moving, I'll address that in a later post.

Torchwood

Well it's been a cold and wet weekend in Lusk.  I've spent it doing laundry and cleaning house (as little as possible).  I watched some old movies:

But then I learned something I didn't know.  There is a new (4th) season on the BBC show Torchwood.  The show had actually ended in 2009.  But apparently it got picked up by the Starz Network and they did another whole season in 2011.  It was available on NetFlix streaming and I watch all 10 episodes.  And they were just as good as the original.  Hopefully they will do more.

Websites Upgraded

After getting all the bugs worked out on this site, I have proceeded to upgrade the Niobrara County Fair website and the Hannah & Connor Photos website. The photos website also got a complete makeover.

At one point, however, I was in a near panic. I don't know what I was thinking at the time but I deleted all the files for the fair website from the web server. It was a massive brain fart!!!. Fortunately Network Solutions does a nightly backup and I was able to reimage the website to the night before. Whew!!!

Starting Over

I have upgraded to Joomla 1.7.  It seems to have a big improvement in usability.  But it is very different from version 1.5 and will take some learning.

The biggest downside to upgrading is that the conversion routines just don't seem to work very well.  I've tried a couple of times, but always had problems afterwards.

So I've decided to start over.

UPDATE: I found a utility that will export the contents of the old (v1.5) site as an XML file. That file can then be imported into the new (v1.7) site. So I won't be starting over after all. Yahoo!!!!

NOTE: The photos are uploading (all 6500 2500+ of them). It's going to take a while. If you see a gallery tag, it means the photos haven't uploaded yet.

OOPS: After uploading for about 8 hours I realized that I was uploading the fair photos rather than the brianwilliams.com photos. I had to delete and start over.

UPDATE: Software for comments has been added.  The old software was not compatible with the new version of Joomla.  You will notice a LOGIN box to the left.  Logging in will be required in order to post comments.  To create an account, click on the "Create an account" link.  Your account will not become active until I activate it.  So you won't be able to comment immediately.
